You don’t need to know cars to know what the Honda Civic is about. Functional, reliable, and approachable by all walks of life, the Civic’s value proposition remains steadfast since its debut nearly 50 years ago. But value propositions change with growing customer expectations, so how does the 2022 Honda Civic stay relevant without losing its identity?

To start, Honda’s engineers tweak the Civic’s fundamentals by keeping what’s good and what needs refinement. Although the outgoing model’s 158HP 2.0L and 181HP turbocharged 1.5L engines remain unchanged, they now rest on a new ‘ACE’ unibody structure that improves torsional rigidity and bending rigidity for better occupant protection in a collision. An increased wheelbase, wider rear track width, and upgraded suspension components enhance ride quality while minimizing road vibrations and harshness.

Styling is where the new Honda Civic sees major changes. The sedan’s exterior now features cleaner body lines, revised proportions, and more horizontal shapes to deliver an upscale visual appeal through its design simplicity. A larger interior welcomes its passengers with better ergonomics and touch surfaces, while the minimalistic dash and center console remain easy to use thanks to a nice combination of physical and touch controls. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard across the lineup, with wireless charging, a Bose sound system, and a digital gauge cluster available as options for an even better cabin experience.

Active and passive safety features get a major overhaul. Standard now is a new suite of active safety technology that includes adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, and traffic jam assist systems. In the event of an accident, new injury-reducing front airbags and rear-seat side airbags are now included to protect its occupants.

The 2022 Honda Civic is the brand’s most advanced compact sedan that’s filled with new features and modern styling. It redefines itself by being better at everything but does so with a clean and intuitive design philosophy. There’s a reason why the Honda Civic is a well-known entity, and this latest version elevates that reputation to a higher standard.
