Following a prolonged anticipation from its fan base, the all-new 2024 Lexus GX is finally here, promising enhanced power and superior off-road prowess wrapped in an attractive package.
Now in its third generation, the new GX brings significant powertrain and structural improvements compared to its predecessor. Using the TNGA-F architecture shared alongside the larger LX SUV, the new body-on-frame platform is constructed using the latest welding technology. The result is a 20 per cent more rigid frame that translates to better collision performance and driving quality while being lighter than the outgoing model. A new 3.4-litre twin-turbo V6 engine delivers 349 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque– an improvement of 48 hp and 150lb-ft over its predecessor. Together with the stronger truck frame, the GX can now tow more than 9,000 pounds to enhance its utility, carrying heavier trailers and loads safely.
The new structural and powertrain improvements translate to an elevated driving experience when off-roading. The new generation GX uses an upgraded suspension system with a new double-wishbone front suspension and enhanced stabilizer bar system to deliver unparalleled suspension articulation. Translating to a 26-degree approach angle and a 21-degree departure angle, the GX can navigate slopes with improved stability to ensure a smoother and more controlled ride when tackling challenging off-road terrain.
Visually, the GX reinterprets the current Lexus design language with a rugged twist to match its on-road and off-road capabilities. The exterior outlines its athletic presence using horizontal body lines and bolder wheelarches to highlight the 33-inch all-terrain tires on 18-inch wheels. The rear barn door found in past GXs is replaced by a conventional powered liftgate, while a sweeping L-shaped light bar accentuates the updated Lexus insignia, creating a striking visual identity in the rear. Inside, the design contrasts with the rugged exterior, creating a harmonious balance between practical functionality and sophisticated luxury.
Starting at $83,500, the all-new Lexus GX is a capable off-roader that delivers both looks and off-road performance. Admired by many off-roading enthusiasts over the years, the new generation lives up to the reputation built by its predecessor as the smart choice for luxury off-roading. The new GX is available at any of OpenRoad Group’s three Lexus locations in British Columbia and Ontario.
