At OpenRoad, we are committed to doing our part by fostering more sustainable and robust communities.
By prioritizing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), we aim to create sustainable value not only for our dealerships but also for our communities at large. Together, we work towards advancing environmental sustainability by incorporating transformative actions into our daily operations, while mitigating long-term climate-related risks.
By integrating ESG into our activities, we are putting our best efforts forward to fostering a more resilient and inclusive world for generations to come.
OpenRoad Group is a proud member of the Green Economy Canada‘s National Hub network. We join 250 other Green Economy Leaders across the country in a joint commitment to take meaningful action on climate change & building sustainability into our operations. We are currently measuring our greenhouse gas footprint as a business and planning our greenhouse gas reduction targets, with the intention of publicly reporting our progress over the coming year.
Through our charitable giving arm, OpenRoad Foundation, we have gifted over $145,000 since 2023 to Canadian charities who focus their efforts on environmental sustainability. Through these partners, OpenRoad Associates have actively participated in shoreline clean-ups, food rescues, and various unique volunteering opportunities to further our impact. For more information on our sustainability efforts and other work at OpenRoad Foundation, visit our OpenRoad Foundation website.
We are constantly seeking ways to incorporating unique nature-based solutions into our operations at OpenRoad. Take for example our rooftop apiary at BMW Langley, one of many to come at your nearest OpenRoad locations. The hive provides a home for thousands of honeybees to help foster healthier ecosystems, increase species variety, and restore pollination cycles. Harvested honey in the fall season will be shared with OpenRoad Foundation community partners. Read all about our rooftop beehive here.
As a group, we understand collectively how our actions impact the community and the planet at large. One of the ways in which sustainability is top-of-mind for us is the implementation of our waste diversion program at all OpenRoad locations. We hope to reduce the amount of waste that is sent to landfills by encouraging our Associates and Guests to recycle any recyclable items and compost their organic waste.
Sustainability is top-of-mind in our building projects, from conception to design, and from planning to construction. Take, for example, the solar panels we have installed on the roof of our OpenRoad Toyota Richmond location in order to generate continuous and sustainable energy for dealership operations. We are also proud to say that OpenRoad Honda Burnaby is the only Honda retailer in BC who has achieved Platinum status in Honda Canada’s Green Dealer Program. It is the highest-achievable designation given to Honda retailers and for those who commit to reducing their energy usage by 50% or more.
OpenRoad Group is the largest-volume electric vehicle (EV) retailer in BC, and are strong advocates for electrification. To help consumers better understand and prepare for electrification on the road, we have included resources on our website, including a dedicated Electrified section, for those seeking to purchase and own an EV. Several OpenRoad dealership locations have also hosted education nights, where guests can learn more about EV product lineups, maintenance of EVs, and meet other industry experts to explore ways to incorporate electrification into their homes and lifestyle.
To date, OpenRoad Group has planted over 1,700 trees in BC through our partners at One Tree Planted.
